“It was difficult to imagine being in love anymore, caring deeply about someone, difficult to imagine looking into someone’s eyes and wanting to explode with joy.”
.Danielle steel.
I wonder if the phrase ‘love is blind’ really applies to everyone.
In my opinion that phrase steals away the over emphasized perfectness of it all.
Because blindness represents an absence of sight. And sight gives us an all-round physical view of something.to say that love is blind is to rob it of its essence to see the other person for who they truly are. Sadly you can’t love a person minus seeing all of them. And yes, you should be able to accept and overlook someone’s flaws, but does that entail that you never saw them?
Raphaella and Alex are two strangers.
Alex sees Raphaella for the first time during an evening walk. At the time Raphaella is in deep sorrow as she remembers the days when her now ill husband used to be well and active. When their love was young. And as Danielle indulges us, I really can’t help but feel sad with this woman.
Alex is drown to her and even though they don’t exchange any greetings, the memory of her never leaves his mind.
At this point in the story I am thinking about how two people with different backgrounds in real life meet. Of course I love a good fiction novel but some things are harder to relate to than others. This for me sort of threw me off and here is why. Raphaella is a woman of class, she comes from a wealthy Spanish family and marries an equally wealthy man. Alex as the writer depicts him, is an okay lawyer who does well for himself. When Raphaella gets on a plane she gets the whole 5 star it’s all about you madam treatment while Alex is an economy guy. Okay let’s just get back into the story shall we. Somehow, the universe brings these two together.
Alex a divorcee and Raphaella the woman with the old dying husband whom she repeatedly says she loves. The writer highlights one thing that the two have in common. Raphaella has been married for years but her husband couldn’t give her children. Her immense love for kids makes it clear that this is something she is grieving.
Alex too loves his niece deeply. And his ex-wife who is also a lawyer, seemed to prefer ambition and accomplished goals than having children.
So two strangers meet on a plane, and fall in love in a matter of days. They start having an affair and in all honesty the wrong is completely forgotten. It’s just two people trying to work it out. Two people trying to work out their immense love for each other.
Two people falling in love again.
Two people finding hope again.
Two beautiful people getting another shot at loving.
Their story is very peculiar and different and as much as I hate to admit this there’s probably somebody out there who can relate to this story.
its a story about love. who doesn't love something romantic to grin at?
The writer highlights the fact that it is possible to fall in love with a stranger. and somehow her characters are always at the right place and at the right time. you could say it's fate.
even though I didn't quit agree with the morality of it all. I really enjoyed reading this classic book. Because in the end love is always messed up. But then again that's just my opinion. maybe in order to love fully you have to throw away all caution to the wind.
what's your take? I would love to hear from you.
