James bond, was the first action figure I came to know. I was probably too young to even understand what secret agent meant, but the movie was so interesting with all the fast cars and explosives, young me was super excited. That was when I fell in love with action movies, then my father bought a video cassette player and he bought passenger 57 starring Wesley snipes and I fell in love with the thrill. Just watching someone shoot the bad guys down to save lives amazed me so much. Then we had a major breakthrough when my father came home with a DVD player and we could watch all Jackie Chan and Bruce lee movies on one DVD! For me action movies are a fun fiction space where real life problems are solved in the most powerful way lol. An Action figure can shoot down anyone and not even get in trouble for it. an action figure can burn down a building and not even be sorry or in trouble for it.
So when I started reading. I didn’t know you could get the same kind of adrenaline reading action, crime, suspense and thriller novels as you did with the movies. The first action novel I read was RHINOCEROS BY COLLIN FORBES. Then I read NO HIDING PLACE BY JOSEPH FINDER and THE BOURNE IDENTITY BY ROBERT LUDLUM and I am still amazed by how shooting people, escaping the police and defeating the bad guys with explosives and guns could possibly be amazing.
I think the catch is the suspense in the crimes committed. Trying to find out what killed someone and the circumstances that lead to their deaths. All this makes the perfect ingredients for curiosity. THE SHOOTING AT THE SHOP is well…exactly that, it’s centered on a crime that occurs at a shop. They first assume that the young lady in question committed suicide, but as the story unfolds a lot of questions about her death begin to surface. Simon Bret writes a compelling book and if you just need to relax and read something engaging this is probably it!
Do also check out the books that I have mentioned above, as they are amazing action novels for action lovers.
